The low barrage carries a busy road across the estuary of the River Rance. The power house is towards the far bank.

The exhibition of the Rance Tidal Power project is located in the barrage wall, contains the large bulb turbine shown and has some excellent interactive computer programs.

The bulb turbines make energy from both the flood and ebb tides, as long as there is a suitable difference in height between the two bodies of water.
