There is a decent from San
Bartolome to Santa Lucia, but the valley structure is uncertain, and the
feeling of a caldera, with its central hills, is strong here. Santa
Lucia is a very civilised settlement, centre, but to drive the rim of
the caldera one has to backtrack to the GC-654, right, and start the
ascent. |

On the way to Risco
Blanco the road sweeps up switchbacks that require 1st gear!
Such are the slopes that a cable hoist is considered a good
idea! |

At he highest elevations on
GC-654 there is a good overview of the caldera, and also of cave
structures ... although Gran Canaria is absolutely full of them! |

The second visit to
Pico de las Nieves produced an improvement on the flat light,
but at the cost of rising bodies of cloud, but did allow views
over the hill tops ... |

show Rocque Nublo with Teide on Tenerife in the background. It
also showed the cloud overtopping the ridge-line to the north. |

overlooking a fine gorge. |
