Skirting the northern edge of the massif was a land much better watered than the arid canyons of the south; volcanic rock has actually broken down to fertile soil here .. and in a few chosen spots the cloud forest produces the filigree Spanish moss.

Under a layer of cloud there was enough light to see all the way to Las Palmas.
