The Growth of Ipswich
The original function of Ipswich, as the lowest bridging point on the River Gipping/Orwell, shows up well from the map.
Growth of Ipswich was relatively late, left to Victorian times and the growth of industry and communications.
Late Victorian additions, and those just happening after the First World War, greatly increased the size of Ipswich.
The area of the inter-war housing almost doubles the area of the town.
The outer-urban estates complete the picture of growth .. almost. The next plot should see further expansion through out-of-town commercial centres and new, private, estates pushing up against, in the south, the line of the new bypass.

Land Use in Ipswich

The challenge of this fine map is to fit a suitable urban model to its land-use features.
These are a series of maps lifted from a local site that I do not seem to be able to access today, hence adding them to this site. If they are yours, do let me know!
