Levington walk 10 April 2009

 

 

 

Parking is available at Thorpe Common, next to a fishing lake, and the track taken down to the River Orwell shores, centre, where the beach beneath Sleighton Hill contains many sea shells.

Turning to the west the footpath takes you past Loompit Lake, an artificial construction seeming popular with fishermen.

A tidal basin next to the marina  appears to be draining on a falling tide.

The docks at Felixstowe are, like most places on the Orwell, quite visible from the marina, right.

The path through the woodland at Stratton Cliff is a very pleasant walk, and at the top of the cliff a good exposure of crag is visible.

Returning across farmland ploughing was underway with a number of large and impressive cultivators.

The tidal basin next to the marina is almost overtopped by the rising waters, inundating the salt marsh.

Loompit Lake, created by building a barrier across the River Orwell, is the home to a whole range of birdlife.

The lake, in late summer, was suffering from a  build up of green algae, that has produced a spectacular bloom, below.
