The state of the ride
denies access to the northern beach to a group on a school fieldwork
trip. The beach has been considerably lowered here, but will soon form
the basis of 'Crag Walk', a 100m breakwater that will offer views of the
eroding cliff from seaward at all states of the tide. |

Some views that
will change considerably when the rocks arrive for the
breakwater, that will cut off the wave action that currently
removes the toe of the landslips from the slumping cliffs. |

Recession rates should
reduce as the slumping materials piles up against the barrier, and then,
of course, the free face will fail until an 'angle of repose' is
achieved! |

The free face of
the cliff in this first embayment has grown over the previous
several years, and allowing it to 'relax' will inevitably lead
to the loss of the cafe, if not the Tower itself. |

Signs of impending
recession to the north of the first embayment, with material
ending up in debris flows, often saturated mobile flows. |

A look back to the
south, left, shows the considerable height of the free face,
whilst to the north rotational slumps, with blocks large and
small .. and some quite delicate, are on the move. |

The coastline is
about to retreat! Taken from several fissures out from the edge,
these blocks are about to move .. just awaiting some rain I
expect! |
