Text structure:

A general statement to introduce the topic, such as: 

"Many rivers have waterfalls along their course".

then

A series of logical steps, explaining how or why something occurs.

These steps continue until the explanation is complete.

 

Language features

Simple present tense ..... "Rivers flow down valleys"  time connectives...... then, next, several months later

Uses causal connectives .....because, so this causes

 

  1. Look at Geography123 Book 1 pages 78-79 and read how waterfalls are formed.

  2. Write out, in your own words, your explanation as a series of bullet points.

Connectives- list of connection words

  1. Using the waterfall writing frame and diagrams sheet, divide your points into paragraphs, to fit each stage of the diagrams.

  2. At this point you need to see you are using the connectives fully, both of cause and of time. This will go into your geography file.
