On a map of the world, and using the world map on page 123 as a guide, make a copy of the world map of French possessions and groupings from page 58. Label the three main groups of colonies: French West and North Africa, French Indo-China and French Pacific Territories.

France has two main grouping to which she belongs: 1. her ex-colonies and present-day territories, and 2. the EU Write out a paragraph on each group, containing the advantages to France of belonging to these groups.

Look at the graph showing France's trade on page 59. Add up the total value of imports, and the total value of exports. The EU countries are shown in a peach colour; for imports add up the amount of trade France does with these countries. Do the same for exports. Write out these figures. Work out the percentage of all French imports that come from the EU. Do the same for exports.
